Strengthen Food Security and Livelihoods
The Food Security and Livelihood Program aims to enhance the well-being, resilience, and self-reliance of vulnerable communities by ensuring access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food while strengthening sustainable income-generating opportunities.
Rakhine State is one of Myanmar's most food-insecure and economically vulnerable regions. Recurrent conflict, intercommunal violence, and natural disasters such as cyclones and floods have disrupted agricultural production, displaced large populations, and weakened local economies.
Prolonged displacement and movement restrictions, especially in central and northern Rakhine, have severely undermined the ability of communities to produce or purchase sufficient food. Smallholder farmers, daily laborers, women-headed households, and youth face limited livelihood opportunities, while malnutrition remains high, particularly among children and pregnant women.
This program aims to improve both the availability of and access to food, while also promoting sustainable economic activities to enhance community well-being, empowering vulnerable communities to become self-reliant and resilient in the face of various shocks.
